You expect flooding, it's just a fact of life. Like living alongside a river in the states. You know that at least every few years you're going to be flooded, if not every year. It's the price you pay for where you liveAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3271044417293773235.post-72920128663447133922008-12-08T02:45:00.000-05:002008-12-08T02:45:00.000-05:00What cracks me up is that (like you said), nobody ...What cracks me up is that (like you said), nobody really seems to care.

I'm out in Los Angeles and jump to avoid stepping in a puddle (ok, maybe not that serious but you get what I mean. I think.). I'm not sure how I'd feel about walking in water that's nearly up to my knees.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3271044417293773235.post-46263581816640257002008-12-08T02:34:00.000-05:002008-12-08T02:34:00.000-05:00Kia ora KathyVenice is such a city of romance. There must be a lot of footrot :-)

Catchya laterBlogger In Middle-earthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08722634477041121797noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3271044417293773235.post-16925579557435133962008-12-08T02:16:00.000-05:002008-12-08T02:16:00.000-05:00They don't seem phased because it happens EVERY ye...They don't seem phased because it happens EVERY year. This year it's deeper than many in the past, but Venice floods every year like clockwork. Even with the flood barriers they have, which are amazingly complicated.

My sister lived in Venice for many years and I've been there quite a few times, including the winter flooding. Those boards you see? They're up there every freaking winter and learning how to walk on them is quite the balancing act when everyone in the entire city is on them at the same time.

When it floods like that, the vaporetto tend not to run (water taxis) and so everyone is sloshing thru the water or walking the boards. It's an amazing city, but it does have it's issues. Including quite the stench in high summer!margalithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09782326504951603071noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3271044417293773235.post-42636997460871836552008-12-08T01:09:00.000-05:002008-12-08T01:09:00.000-05:00Same for me.
