If you had to choose only one CD to listen to over and over and over again for the rest of your life, what would it be?
(Even asking this question makes me cringe - one CD? over and over? forever? sounds like after a month I'd want to rip off my ears... But I think if I was forced to chose it'd have to be something by the now defunct (boohooooo) band The Format. Their two CDs - Interventions and Lullabies and Dog Problems - are just so GOOD and peppy and fun and I really never get tired of listening. It is EXCELLENT driving music. If you've never heard of them you should do yourself a favor and listen ASAP! Start with "The First Single" or "Wait Wait Wait" or "Time Bomb" and you can thank me later...

Ooh, good pick. I've had Dog Problems on heavy rotation lately. I was so sad when they broke up!
However, I'd probably have to go with Singles by Travis. It's perfect for all situations and I never have to skip a song.
(P.S. New reader via Chuck--keep up the good work!)
Thanks for the tunes!
Third Eye Blind - Third Eye Blind!
"4 Seasons" by Jeffrey Lewis. Over and over and over.

Is there any reason it WOULDN'T be "Rumours" by Fleetwood Mac? Obviously you meant to ask us to pick one CD in addition to "Rumours", right? :)
Classical is so much better for me if I'm going to have to do some repeated listening...
Maybe Beethoven's 9th Symphony. It's long and complex enough to not get too annoying. Or Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet. Or The Rites of Spring by Stravinsky.
If not classical...
White Stripes, Elephant
Avalanches, Since I Left You
Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon
Hem, Rabbit Songs
I think I just failed this question.
Excellent question, grrrlie. I'm currently in head over heels luvvvvv with Trumpet Child by Over the Rhine. Very danceable.
Just popping in from Chuck's blog.
ugh... The Format? They sound like a circus to me. Plus, they were my exes favorite band. So you can see my resentment! haha. If I had to choose one CD it would probably have to be easy listening, like Jack Johnson or something. Because you just can't listen to anything over and over again without going insane, but mellow makes it easier. :)
If I could only have one CD forever? Probably one from Hank Williams Greates Hits. I love that old twangy country music.
Can't even comment on this as my musical taste is too eclectic, too strange and too "old" to possibly be of interest to a twenty-something audience. After all, I'm the one who put Brenda Lee, James Brown, Eek-a-Mouse and Mahalia Jackson in the same playlist.
But interesting question and sure to spark a lot of controversy.
Jars of Clay - The Eleventh Hour. My all time favorite album.
As an aside, I am adoring your Bookshelf posts...I have way too many books and I want my house to someday help contain them!
Kia ora Kathy.
This is a very personal question. One reveals a lot by answering it.
I like pop and also folk music. But if I'd only one to choose it would be Jealousy by Menuhin and Grappelli. I understand I might be showing my age here :-) but I think the CD has so much life. They were a great combination! Class musicians!
Catchya later
from Middle-earth
Marte Wulff's "Jacket." And, for a year+ now...
oh geez, forced to dig deep and say something profound. The Bible. The Bible on CD. Ha! All those wild stories about leprosy, Song of Songs, Psalms, Proverbs, Revelation. Endless entertainment - even murder and starvation - laciviousness (sp?)- yes, the Bible would provide relief from boring repetition.
I live in PHX, so I already felt for a while like I was trapped in an elevator for months with The Format playing over and over and over and over and over and over and...
Sorry. I started to glaze over. The only way "The Format" and "desert island" would make a list of mine is if it were "bands you want to strand on a desert island."
This is a tough question, because no one CD is going to provide the variety I'd want, but if I had to choose, it'd probably be "Songs for Swingin' Lovers". Nothing like Sinatra and Nelson Riddle arrangements to get you through the long loneliness with your toe tappin'.
I have a few...very different from your other commenters sassykathy. i'd have to say 50 cent- get rich or die tryin. people can't appreciate good music these days
just kidding kathryn. i agree on the format i think. although in some states of mind i might really be tempted to choose the new akon cd or britney :)
hmmm... "true democracy" (steel pulse) would be my first pick.
"sleep through the static" (jack johnson) and "II" (boyz II men) would be my next choices...
GREAT question and a tough one to answer!
I've narrowed it down to two:
1. Dave Matthews 'Crash'
2. Paul Simon 'Graceland'
Tough question. There is so much good music, new and old, in this world.
Probably the Grateful Dead, Blues for Allah.
That's not a fair question :-P
It's impossible to answer!
I go through moods so it switches from one genre to the next. Lately it's been some Jack Johnson (up late and trying to get some work done while listening to somethin' mellow).
