I found this article from today's Star-Ledger to be beyond inspiring - I hope you'll take a look.
In brief: Well-to-do middle class overachiever in NJ graduates high school and decides, rather than immediately succumb to the standard stressful path of higher education, to travel around the world and help others. Was inspired during a trip to Nepal and used her life savings to buy a plot of land, and build a home for orphans. Now, at merely 22, she cares for 20 orphans in the foothills of the Himalayas.
Amazing.

ok, awesome. really awesome. I often wish that i had done something like this when I was still young and unattached. I thought long and hard about doing some sort of mission stuff when I graduated from college and should have done it.
Now, with 2 kids, husband and home and job, it looks like it will be a long while until I can devote an uninterrupted, long period of my life to mission.
Don't jump into the "real world" too soo, my dear.
Thanks for sharing this too! Great example of someone being simultaneously practical and idealistic (and brave). Amazing that she saw an urgent need and did something rather than giving into all the thoughts/emotions that usually get in the way of people helping when they can.
